Somehow I managed to land myself a permanent gig at Ryerson University Library right out of library school. I started out fresh-faced and scared shitless they would find out I had no idea what I was doing. To this day, I can’t shake that feeling, but I’m getting better at hiding it.
I have an immense amount of privilege – I’m white, cis, middle class and have academic freedom – it would be a shame to waste it. I believe in being kind, but I also believe in calling out BS when I see it; these can co-exist. At my worst, I am an unforgiving cynic dismayed by society, at my best, a tenacious doer of tasks to move things along, hoping for progressive change. This blog is my small contribution to a world where we say what we mean, and mean what we say.
